Criminal Defense
It is often asked: ”How can you defend all these criminals?”
Well, our Constitution has several safeguards guaranteed to all citizens. One of the parts says: ”A person is innocent until his guilt is proven at a trial of his peers.” We of the Criminal Defense bar like to think of ourselves as constitutional lawyers rather than criminal defense lawyers. Why, one would ask, would we think of ourselves in that manner?
The reason being: the amendments of the U.S. Constitution were written into the Constitution for the protection of the citizens against an overreaching, overbearing government. For example the 5th amendment says no one can force a defendant to testify against himself; either on the streets or in a courtroom.
Sometimes you will hear of a defendant being released or found not guilty and people will say it was because of a technicality. Those technicalities are, however, because the government violates the legal procedures the law says they must follow. That is where a Criminal Defense attorney protects not just the guilty but also the innocent from an overbearing government.
Therefore, to answer the question how can you represent those criminals I say: They aren’t criminals until they are found guilty; and only found guilty in the proper manner. I like to get in court and fight for my clients and their rights.
